Fabulous Underwater Photography
Friday, 06 May 2005
Technion researchers have succeeded in developing a unique method that dramatically improves the quality of underwater photography.  This method, the first of its kind in the world, is capable of checking underwater pipes and cables, bridge pylons sunk in the water and atomic reactors.  It could also be of great assistance in scientific research - biology, underwater archeology and underwater mapping.

The researchers achieved excellent results by connecting a specific filter to a camera and applying a mathematical algorithm they developed.  With this innovative method it is also posible to estimate distances underwater and to give the photographs three-dimensional depth.
