Charity Challenge Summary

What are we raising money for?

Today, the Technion is Israel's primary scientific-technological university and largest center of applied research. Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in the UK and Israel. The earlier cancer can be diagnosed, and the more accurately the effectiveness of a treatment can be monitored, the better the prognosis for the patient. The Technion is at the forefront of these efforts to battle cancer.

Just one example of Cancer Research at the Technion are researchers led by Assoc. Prof. Arie Admon who have uncovered a potential source of blood-derived biomarkers for certain kinds of cancer. This discovery could eventually help doctors determine whether a recovering cancer patient has relapsed, and may someday aid in the early detection of a variety of cancers and other diseases, using a relatively simple blood test. This could be the foundation for a simple and universal blood-based method for cancer diagnosis as well as a possible source of the information needed to enable personalized treatment for the disease.

More research is needed to examine and test this process and many others, which all hold potential for being developed as the future of cancer research.
Your generous donation will ensure that necessary resources are available to a truly outstanding group of researchers to improve the health and quality of life for people worldwide and help put an end to this vicious disease.

Why do a Charity Challenge?

It’s a new avenue of fundraising that we want to explore. Anyone can participate; it’s a great experience as well as a challenging way of raising funds for cancer research.  It’s a demanding physical challenge, which should not be taken lightly, as well as taking a lot of time and dedication to organise.

What Challenge? There are a lot of challenges to choose from, and as its our first year we will be joining other small charities on the challenges so there will be plenty of new people to meet. You can choose any open challenge on the website, but we would like to try and get everyone on the same trip!

We would recommend

The Mount Everest Base Camp Trek December 2011: This outstanding trek to the base camp of the world''s highest mountain will take you through the lush valleys of Sagarmatha National Park, with time to explore its villages and monasteries. Everest.Your trekking adventure begins at Lukla, where you will trek to the Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar. You will have plenty of time to acclimatise to the altitude, following the trail across numerous rivers. Your trek leads gradually uphill from Thyangboche, where you will reach a highpoint at Kalapathar (5,545m) with breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and glaciers including Mt. Everest. Having completed the challenge, you will have the chance to explore the city of Kathmandu and its many temples and bazaars.
