Opportunities for UK Students
PROGRAMMES

The British Technion Society is the UK organisation, which supports the Technion, Israel's University of Science and Technology.  The Technion offers a superb range of outreach programmes and over the last few years hundreds of UK students have furthered their academic studies by participating in these programmes organised through BTS.  We are keen to ensure that all students are aware of the opportunities  open to them at the Technion.

The Nobel Prize winning institution is world renowned for its incredible research in the field of science and technology.  In recent years this has included new cures for cancer, the most advanced drug to treat Parkinson's disease, a unique device which can detect improvised explosives such as used in the London bombings, and insulin-secreting cells which have been grown to treat diabetes.

BTS offers a range of opportunities for UK students to benefit from the Technion's expertise.....

- Annual Study Programme -Each year the Technion hosts 100 overseas undergraduate and graduate students on campus to participate in a year long scientific research programme which is specifically tailored towards the students' research interests and requirements.

Summer programme - Students are able to study at the Technion during the summer months on a range of scientific subjects.

Speakers - BTS regularly hosts Technion Professors in the UK, most recently Nobel Prize Winner Professor Aaron Ciechanover and next month, stem cell expert Professor Karl Skorecki who is world renowned for determining that most Cohanim are descendants of a single male who lived nearly 4000 years ago.  BTS has also organised live video link-ups with the Technion, most recently with Professor Moussa Youdim who developed the most advanced drug yet to treat Parkinson's disease.  BTS would be happy to organise a visit of a leadiing Professor or live video link-up at your university.

Tour Visit - BTS can organise a tour of the Technion during your visit to Israel.  Last year, participants on the Young Jewish Medics Trip visited the Technion in Haifa and met with some of the Technion's leading experts in medicine.  Whether your interest lies in engineering, science, medicine, architecture or education, BTS can organise a tour of university together with talks from leading Professors in your field of study.

International Co-operation- The Technion is involved in collaborative scientific outreach projects around the world and works closely with a number of leading scientific institutions in the UK including Cambridge and Bristol universities.

Roadshow - BTS can organise for their roadshow to visit your campus - a dynamic and interactive audio-visual presentation about the incredible breadth of scientific research carried out by the Technion.   The presentation lasts about an hour.

Conferences and Workshops - The Technion is a world junction for intellectual exchange with more than 160 national and international conferences, symposia and workshops each year.

If you would like to get involved in any of the programmes on offer or would like further information, please contact BTS on 020 7495 6824 or bts62@aol.com.  We can also put you in touch with students who participated in our programme last year.  Guy Conway from Manchester University, partipated in the Technion's summer programme 2005 and on his return, he commented: "I think more international students should study there as it was one of the highlights of my university career.  I graduated from Manchester in June with a first class degree and I am sure my developments at the Technion were part of it".

We are excited to be able to offer such a broad range of academic opportunities at the Technion and we look forward to hearing from you.
